Remember Remember The 5th November...

Today in university we had SEN and a guest speaker from Clicker 5 - Eleri.

In SEN we discussed what an individual educucation plan (IEP) is and how best to form a graduated approach when using and implementing it. The main point I remembered was to make sure any targets you set the children on an IEP were SMART:

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Achievable

  • Realistic

  • Time Bound

Afterwards we had a talk from Eleri from Clicker 5, a piece of educational software which can be used across the Curriculum. We were showed the basics and made some sentence forming grids and an electronic book. I thought Clicker 5 was really good, and I would consider buying it for use as a trainee teacher and beyond.

Today's Question: If you could be any firework, which firework would you be and why?

Read, Comment and Enjoyo, please! =) x

Today's Question:

If you could describe your first serial day in ONE WORD, what would it be?

My day was: BENDI!!! (my teacher uses 'bendi' instead of bendigedig).

Pirates, Treasure and David Tennant...

Well... I survived! I cannot be bothered to write up everything in a posh way so I am bullet-pointing everything that happened. Enjoy. =)

  • Had tour of the school and ended up seeing an old 'colleague' from Cwm Primary - it was nice to see a familiar face, even more so when I found out they were helping out in my classroom!
  • Met my class teacher, Mrs Lloyd/Allin (she got married a few weeks ago so the children call her a mixture of these two) and saw my classroom. Compared to a lot of classrooms it is rather small, but it is manageable. There are lots of continuous provision areas and the classroom has an individual computer as well as an IWB. At least I can start planning my Opus. =P
  • Had a heart attack when I found out my class consisted of Reception AND Nursery - 42 in the morning and 17 in the afternoon. Felt better when I realised that I had an army of LSAs and Adult Helpers, mwahahaha!!
  • Theme of the week was colours so most people were wearing red - apart from me who wore good old brown. The theme for the whole term is pirates (hahaha, Lauren!) and there majority of the work done today was based around Knowledge and Understanding of the World: burying treasure and explaining where it was using a mixture of directional language and geographical features.
  • Went out on playground duty in the morning and got told by numerous children that he looked like David Tennant - was very pleased. =)
  • Took a group of children for a focussed task (same as above) - went well.

Overall I really enjoyed my very first serial day in Christchurch - even though I couldn't find the way into the school! LOL!

Today's Question...

Question for everyone -

Where are you on teaching placement this year?

I'll go first: I am at Chrischurch Primary, Foundation Phase.

COMMENT PLEASE!!!! =) x

In The Beginning There Was The Word...

Ok here goes...

Hey y’all! Dan here! I am a 3rd year student at Swansea Metropolitan University (previously known as the Swansea Dimstitute), doing a course in Primary Education. This is my first blog so please be nice!! =)

On this blog I will be commenting on the random occurrences of the course, including things we have learnt, things that have happened and anything else deemed worthy of space on my precious little blog! So get ready for:

Gossip!
Drama!
Scandal!
Randomness!

There’s no time like the present, so here goes… Today has been a very good day in University. We had English this morning and learnt lots about the various rhyming patterns that can occur, and how we can incorporate poetry into the primary classroom. For most of the lecture we looked at different words and how they may rhyme, whether it be a masculine rhyme (the end of the word rhyming), a feminine rhyme (the beginning of the rhyme) or an eye rhyme (words that have the same spelling pattern but do not necessarily sound the same). The highlight of the lecture was Mark realising that lemonade, cherryade and appleade ALL rhyme with parade… simple things please simple minds…

I am currently in my ICT lecture, and (funnily enough) we are discussing how to use blogs – hence this shambles of an attempt. All the ICT specialists are now writing up their blogs frantically, so I will be linking everyone here!

Tomorrow is our first day out at schools, and most people are very nervous/excited. I am a mixture of both, because it is the first time I will be immersed within a Foundation Phase setting. I hope everything goes well – if I survive I will let you know! =)

I think that’s pretty much everything that has happened today, so this is Dan over and out! =) x
